About this course
We develop excellent teachers who are resilient, critical, and reflective classroom practitioners. You will benefit from the university’s commitment to inclusivity, diversity and serving disadvantaged diverse communities. The well-structured curriculums and placement-based training prepare trainees well to enter the world of teaching (Ofsted 2023).
The University of Greenwich has a long history of providing Initial Teacher Education courses. This course is designed to prepare Beginning Teachers for work in schools and to ensure that they are equipped to stay in the profession with a focus on sustainability but also to take the opportunity to explore education beyond the classroom. To be eligible to apply for teaching posts, Beginning Teachers must meet all the current Teachers’ Standards when summatively assessed against these at the end of the course. To become evidence-informed problem-solving practitioners, who can make a significant difference to the lives of the pupils they work with, their QTS* needs a sound theoretical underpinning provided by the ITT/E Curriculum.
The academic and professional dimensions to Initial Teacher Training/Education are symbiotic. The abilities to address complex issues and develop critical thinking skills are important dimensions to the University-based taught modules. Beginning Teachers have maximum opportunities to practise in the classroom and to use the underpinning theory to understand and adapt their practice. The ITT/E Curriculum and practice is unified with Beginning Teachers learning and developing from expert practitioners both at centre and in the partnership.
*University of Greenwich sets and receives fees, delivers the programme, provides wellbeing support, and makes the academic award. University of Derby co-designs and accredits the curriculum, and recommends the QTS award.
