The automotive industry a hugely rewarding sector for a professional engineer, with extensive career options and significant earning potential. This five-year course aims to provide the fundamental principles of mechanics, dynamics, heat transfer and fluid flow with manufacturing technologies.

It will also enhance your industrial experience through project work on real-world scenarios. You’ll develop your automotive specialism, too, through the investigation of propulsion systems, power transfer and chassis dynamics.

In our Mechanical Engineering subject area, our degree programmes share the same first year, meaning you can leave your options open until your second year.

In the fourth year of this Master’s course, you’ll work on a selected individual research/design project with the support of your academic supervisor. In your fifth (Master's) year, you’ll take part in a team project involving the design, build and friendly competitive testing of either a road, airborne or rail vehicle for example, Team HARE, Team Hawk or HudRail. These activities will focus on enhancing your leadership and project management skills.

Previous graduates from courses in this subject area have gone on to work in a variety of roles†(in organisations including McLaren Automotive Ltd, Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd, Rolls-Royce, Cummins Inc and Bentley Motors Ltd), such as senior supplier quality engineer, vehicle engineering manager, and design engineer.
