The Level 4 HNC Fashion specialist study programme is a one-year course, designed to equip you with a wide range of technical and creative skills that will enable you to work as a fashion or textiles designer within the industry. Studying at the hub of our East Riding College campus in Bridlington will provide you with the space to work in our fantastic studio facilities that will assist in the development of your industry work. You will be required to undertake study trips and exhibition visits that will underpin your project work, and enhance a broader range of subject knowledge for your specialism. Whether you are completely new to the industry or have studied before and want to take your skillset to the next level. You will have the opportunity to develop your understanding of digital design, experimental pattern cutting and garment production. You will gain industry experience through live briefs which provide you with further insight into the fashion industry from a comprehensive perspective. Our previous students have worked with global companies such as Lee Jeans and Boohoo and found this invaluable experience for their industry portfolios.

This dynamic and rapidly changing sector of the global economy explores a wide range of subjects covering; research skills, design and portfolio development, trend prediction and market research, pattern cutting and garment construction, along with additional support for preparing for interviews. The pathways of this qualification are intended to provide you with the opportunity to explore the creative industries through a focused curriculum that will prepare you for progressing onto our HND (Level 5) in Fashion or working within the fashion industry.

The course is designed for students with previous academic experience and a personal interest in art and fashion who have the ambition to further develop a professional focus for fashion and textiles within their work.

The HNC first year of the programme provides you with all the essential skills you will need to successfully challenge the creative process and excel in the world of fashion and textiles. Throughout the course you will be encouraged and guided to develop your research practices, concept innovation, design and construction skills and awareness of its application within the creative industries. Digital design will also be a key attribute to the development of your final portfolio. You will learn an expansive range of skills which will be relevant to your progression onto our HND Level 5, or for a variety of creative career pathways in industry if this is your preferred choice.
