About this course

Explore another culture on this BA Ancient History and Archaeology with Year Abroad degree. Learn about the ancient world and find ways to understand the foundations of how we live today. From Ancient Egypt to the rise of Islam in the Middle East. You can also learn what happened during the conquests of Alexander the Great and at the end of the Roman Empire.

You’ll have the chance to engage with topics you are already passionate about, or to try something entirely new. This might mean application of cutting-edge technology to discover and map new sites, or develop complimentary archival research skills.

We are ranked 5th in the UK for Archaeology in the Complete University Guide, 2024.

You'll gain at least 3 weeks of practical experience of field work, including excavating archaeological sites and collecting archaeological material from ploughed fields.

Studying abroad for a year will enable you to explore another culture. You'll spend your third year at a partner university in Europe, the United States, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea or Australia.

Our Digital Humanities facilities will allow you to study and research through cutting edge technology, such as virtual reality, 3D scanners and printers, and a 360 degree fully immersive audio-visual centre.
