About this course

If you are already working in the engineering industry and want to upskill, as either a Higher Apprenticeship or standalone HNC. Or if you want to progress to university top-up eventually to a full degree. Find out more form the Pearson student guide: https://www.pearson.com/en-gb/schools/campaigns/btec-higher-nationals.html

The Level 4 units lay the foundation of learning by providing a broad introduction to the engineering sector as well as a focused introduction to aeronautical engineering. This develops and strengthens core skills while preparing students for more specialist subjects at Level 5 or to enter employment with the qualities necessary for job roles that require some personal responsibility. Students will gain a wide range of scientific and engineering knowledge linked to practical skills obtained through research, independent study, directed study and workplace scenarios. Students are involved in vocational activities that help them to develop behaviours (the attitudes and approaches required for a competence) and transferable skills. Transferable skills are those such as communication, teamwork, research and analysis, which are highly valued in higher education and in the workplace. By the end of Level 4 study, students will have sound knowledge of the basic concepts of aeronautical engineering. They will be competent in a range of subject-specific skills as well as in general skills and qualities relevant to these key areas of engineering.

Assessment & Feedback
Pearson BTEC Higher Nationals are assessed using a combination of:
Centre-developed internal assignments that are set and assessed by Centres
Pearson-set assignments, which are set by Centres in line with our guidelines and graded by Centres. Pearson-set units are mandatory and target particular industry-specific skills. The number and value of these units depend on qualification size
For the HNC, Centres will assess one compulsory Pearson-set unit targeted at particular skills. This is a Level 4 core unit carrying 15 credits.
All other units are assessed through internal assignments set by the Centre.
